| Q:
Do the regulations of HIPAA's Electronic Transaction Rule have any impact
on SpectraSoft products?
Created: December
27, 2002
A: The quick answer
is no they do not. The Electronic Transaction Rule is part of HIPAA's
Administrative Simplification Compliance Act. The purpose of this rule
is to adopt standards for administrative and financial health care transactions
that are conducted electronically. This rule applies to the following
types of healthcare transactions:
- Health claims and
equivalent encounter information.
- Enrollment and
disenrollment in a health plan.
- Eligibility for
a health plan.
- Health care payment
and remittance advice.
- Health plan premium
payments.
- Health claim status.
- Referral certification
and authorization.
- Coordination of
benefits.
At the time this
FAQ was created, none of SpectraSoft's products conducted any of the transactions
that fall under the regulations of this rule. Therefore, SpectraSoft did
not have to make any changes to our software to accommodate these regulations.
